NRM CEC members account for five-year term ahead of delegates’ conference

NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) have presented an account of their five-year term in office

Three senior members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) have presented an account of their five-year term in office, ahead of the party’s much-anticipated Delegates’ Conference scheduled for August 27–28, 2025, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The officials including, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Vice Chairperson for Western Region; Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, Vice Chairperson for Central Region; and Lydia Wanyoto, National Chairperson of the Women’s League addressed the media at the NRM Secretariat in Kyadondo, Kampala, where they reflected on their contributions to the party’s growth and policy direction during their tenure.

Among the highlighted achievements was the successful engagement of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as the party’s National Chairperson, with cultural leaders and clan heads, an initiative aimed at strengthening community ties and cultural diplomacy within the party framework.

They also cited progress in empowering women in the party structure and supporting government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) to improve grassroots livelihoods.

In response to criticism that they had failed to hold regular meetings in their respective regions, the trio dismissed the claims, clarifying that CEC guidelines do not require regional office bearers to convene public meetings.

Their roles, they explained, are focused on national policy formulation, strategic planning, and party consolidation rather than constituency-based engagements.

The upcoming Delegates’ Conference will primarily focus on electing new office bearers for the Central Executive Committee, including the National Chairperson, First National Vice Chairperson, and six regional Vice Chairpersons.

The event is expected to draw thousands of party delegates from across the country and will be a key moment in shaping the NRM’s leadership for the next five years.

With the countdown to the conference underway, the current CEC leaders are positioning themselves for re-election, while also defending their record and contribution to the party’s stability and direction.
