FDC elders set to choose 2026 presidential flag bearer

former party president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and current Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party Elders is scheduled to convene tomorrow at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi to select the party’s presidential flag bearer for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

The two contenders vying for the party’s top ticket are former party president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and current Secretary General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, FDC Spokesperson John Kikonyogo emphasized that the elders have been advocating for a single, unified candidate to maintain internal cohesion and avoid divisions ahead of the elections.

Kikonyogo said the Elders Council will meet to make a final decision on the party’s presidential candidate and the outcome will be formally communicated to the National Executive Committee on Wednesday, July 30.

He further revealed that the chosen flag bearer will be unveiled to the National Delegates Conference on Thursday, July 31.

The conference is expected to bring together over 1,000 delegates from across the country.

This selection process comes at a critical time for the FDC, which has been working to rebuild and consolidate its support base in preparation for the 2026 general polls.
