Leaders and delegates of the opposition Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) have been urged to remain focused and resilient in their quest to challenge and eventually unseat the ruling government.
The call was made during a two-day National Conference and Training organized by the party, which kicked off today, July 28, at Tal-Cottages in Rubaga-Kabuusu.
The event, running under the theme “Strengthening Democracy through Political Party Leadership, Coalition Building and Electoral Preparedness,” aims to equip party leaders with the strategies needed for effective political engagement ahead of the 2026 general elections.
In his opening address, ANT party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu emphasized that the current government’s over 40-year grip on power has not been sustained by popularity but by systematic intimidation and fear.
He challenged party members to resist fear, stay resilient, and remain steadfast in their commitment to bringing about change.
Gen. Muntu also underscored the importance of unity among opposition forces.
He encouraged the formation of coalitions and collaboration with other like-minded political groups to amplify their collective impact.
Also addressing the gathering was Kampala Lord Mayor and National Chairman of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Elias Lukwago.
He warned ANT members against falling prey to government agents who may attempt to compromise them with offers of leadership positions or financial incentives.
Lukwago urged them to stand firm in their values and resist any efforts to derail the struggle for democratic change.
The conference continues through July 29, as party members strategize on building a stronger, united opposition front.
