NRM Electoral Commission chair vows no pressure tolerance amid primaries disputes

NRM Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi

The Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has vowed not to succumb to pressure from any candidate involved in the party primaries.

This statement follows a recent clash between incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo and party commissioner Ambassador James Kinobe over allegations of voter bribery in Lwemiyaga County.

The primaries there, won by Retired Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande, were reportedly marred by electoral violence and bribery.

Dr. Tanga emphasized that any aggrieved candidate who lost in the primaries must follow due process by filing petitions with the party tribunal.

He aligned with the party chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, in condemning electoral violence, which has been linked to some candidates and party registrars.

Dr. Tanga warned that anyone found responsible will face consequences.

Furthermore, he confirmed the arrest of seven party registrars from Hoima, Kasanda, and Iganga districts for violating electoral regulations, cautioning all party members to strictly adhere to electoral procedures.

Dr. Tanga made these remarks ahead of tomorrow’s NRM primaries, which will elect candidates for positions including Lord Mayors, Division Mayors, LC5 Councillors, and LC3 Councillors.
