President Museveni promises Shs300 million to traders' SACCOs in Busega Market

President Yoweri Museveni has pledged a total of Shs 300 million to three traders’ SACCOs in Busega Market: Busega United Fisheries SACCO, Tuli Bumu Drivers SACCO, and Busega Market SACCO.

Each SACCO will receive Shs 100 million to support their economic activities.

This investment is part of the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM), a key initiative aimed at boosting economic growth and improving household incomes.

In addition, President Museveni has promised to engage with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Sharifah Buzeki, to discuss the purchase of land that will connect the Northern Bypass to Busega Market and expand the Taxi Park.

The President encouraged traders to explore three primary forms of wealth creation: commercial agriculture, artisanship, and service-based industries, as part of efforts to enhance their incomes.

Museveni’s response followed concerns raised by the Chairperson of Busega Market, Jimmy Kawuma, who highlighted the challenges facing traders, including low customer turnout, a lack of capital to support SACCOs, and the need for land to expand the taxi park and attract more customers to the market.

Today, President Museveni also commenced a monitoring drive in Rubaga Division, Kampala District, to assess the progress of some beneficiaries under the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
