Late retired Supreme Court Judge, Professor George Wilson Kanyeihamba,

The family of the late retired Supreme Court Judge, Professor George Wilson Kanyeihamba, is awaiting further guidance on funeral arrangements following his death on Monday morning at Nakasero Hospital. He was 85 years old.

Kanyeihamba, a revered jurist, academic and constitutional law expert, was being cared for by a small, dedicated team that included his adopted daughter Betty Nabitosi, Arnold Anthony Mukose, and Norman Tumuhimbise.

Speaking on behalf of the caretakers, Tumuhimbise noted that the family is waiting for direction from government authorities and the late judge’s close confidant, former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who is expected to offer guidance on the next steps, including the burial plans.

A harmonisation meeting involving family members, close friends, and government representatives is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Kanyeihamba’s residence in Buziga.

Earlier, some family members convened at Nakasero Hospital before the body was transferred to A-Plus Funeral Services.

The late judge’s cherished Pajero vehicle, affectionately named “Limousine”, and gifted to him by the government, remained parked at the hospital.

The government is expected to issue an official statement, possibly confirming whether the distinguished jurist will receive an official burial in recognition of his service to the nation.

However, the timing of such communication remains uncertain, especially as the government currently has no appointed spokesperson following the recent resignation of Ofwono Opondo, who stepped down to join active politics.
