Police in Hoima City are hunting for two supporters of Hoima West Division Member of Parliament, Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, for allegedly attacking a supporter of his political rival.
The suspects, identified only as Aguti and Mutegeki, are accused of hacking 25-year-old Albert Tuhaise, a boda boda rider and resident of Busiisi Cell, Hoima West Division, during a violent altercation at Busiisi Trading Centre on Wednesday around 8a.m.
Tuhaise is reportedly a supporter of Donald Bategeka, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer and Dr. Ruyonga’s rival in the upcoming parliamentary race.
According to our reporter, the two camps were preparing for a joint campaign rally in Busiisi when clashes broke out between their supporters.
During the confrontation, Aguti and Mutegeki allegedly attacked Tuhaise with a panga, inflicting severe injuries on his left hand.
The victim was rushed to Kabalega Medical Centre, where he remains admitted in serious condition.
Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene and are currently at large.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.
