Police have declared Christian Asiimwe, alias Don Chris, the director of Skypins Tours and Travel Company, a wanted person in connection with a fraudulent job recruitment scheme that has defrauded dozens of Ugandans out of millions of shillings.
Since 2022, Skypins Tours and Travel has allegedly run misleading advertisements across multiple platforms, including TV, radio, and social media sites such as TikTok.
These ads promoted lucrative job opportunities abroad in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Dubai, and Luxembourg, urging interested individuals to visit the company’s offices at Ntinda Haruna Mall for more information.
Victims of the scheme were reportedly asked to pay half of the total job placement fee ranging from UGX 3.5 million to UGX 10 million on the promise that they would travel within two to six months.
However, despite receiving receipts, none of the victims were able to travel, and the promised jobs never materialized. It is believed that Skypins Tours and Travel collected more than UGX 500 million in fraudulent fees.
The company later moved its operations to Kitende, along Entebbe Road.
Victims who demanded refunds were either ignored or allegedly threatened by Asiimwe, further escalating the situation.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the matter came to light when victims approached Hon. Balaam Barugahara, the Minister for Youth and Children Affairs.
The issue was then referred to the CID Commander of KMP, leading to the opening of a general inquiry file on June 17, 2025. Investigations are currently underway.
So far, 85 victims have recorded statements, with most of the payments having been made between 2023 and 2024 at the Ntinda office.
The Ministry of Gender and Labour has confirmed that Skypins Tours and Travel is not licensed to operate as an external labour recruitment agency.
