PFF condemns NRM supporters’ violence, urges Museveni to take action

NRM supporters’ violence

The opposition party, People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), has condemned what it calls inhumane and unlawful acts committed by supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) during the recent nomination activities for President Yoweri Museveni.

The incidents occurred on Saturday, 28th June 2025, as President Museveni was escorted to collect his nomination forms.

Eyewitnesses and media reports, including social media footage, alleged that groups of NRM supporters some dressed in yellow T-shirts bearing the president’s image, assaulted civilians and robbed roadside vendors in various parts of Kampala.

Speaking to journalists at the party’s Katonga Road headquarters, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, spokesperson for PFF, described the events as a disgrace, especially coming from members of a party that regularly claims to stand for peace and stability in the country.

Ssemujju challenged President Museveni to publicly condemn the acts and take firm action against those involved.

He accused the NRM of previously blaming the opposition for such violence, but said Saturday’s actions left no doubt about the true perpetrators.

“The NRM has always hidden behind the opposition when committing acts of violence, but this time they were caught in broad daylight. They must either apologize or bring those responsible to justice,” he said.

In the same briefing, Ssemujju announced that the People’s Front for Freedom will be officially launched on Tuesday, 8th July 2025.

The event will include the election of interim party leaders and will be headlined by veteran opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, who is expected to address the public during the launch.
