The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially launched the process of issuing nomination forms to aspirants seeking positions on the party’s powerful Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The exercise, which began today, is scheduled to run until July 1.
Aspirants are required to pay nomination fees according to the position they are contesting for, with the party chairperson paying Shs 20 million, vice chairpersons paying Shs 10 million, regional vice chairpersons Shs 5 million, and chairpersons of various leagues Shs 1 million.
Several aspirants have already picked up nomination forms.
Among them is Shafik Mwanje, who is vying for Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities.
Joseph Ssewava has expressed interest in the position of Vice Chairperson for the Buganda Region, while Asupasa Isiko Mungu is contesting for the position of Secretary of the Veterans League.
Salim Uhuru is seeking the role of Vice Chairperson for Kampala.
Meanwhile, in a significant development concerning the Kampala Central Member of Parliament race, two contenders Nambabwe Charles and Baker Kyambade Njuki have officially withdrawn their candidacy.
Their exit from the race leaves Minister for Kampala, Hajjati Minsa Kabanda, unopposed.
The two cited a desire to preserve party unity and work collectively to ensure the NRM’s success in the next general elections.
