Christians urged to embrace humble and sacrificial discipleship of Christ

Ugandans have been encouraged to live out their faith by following the example of Jesus Christ who served with humility, love, and sacrifice.

Rev. Fr. Augustine Mpagi, a formator at St. Kizito Nandere Minor Seminary, delivered this message during the homily at the thanksgiving Mass marking 75 years of excellence (Platinum Jubilee) at St. John’s Nandere Senior Secondary School in Kasana-Luweero Diocese.

Fr. Mpagi emphasized that Jesus demonstrated humility by washing the feet of his disciples and ultimately sacrificed himself on the cross for the salvation of humanity.

His love extended even to his enemies, and his acts of service were driven by a deep desire to meet the needs of others. He added that Christians are called to reflect this same humility, love, and sacrifice in their daily lives.

The Mass was led by the Vicar General of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga.

During the celebration, Fr. Mpagi reminded the faithful that true discipleship demands selflessness and a willingness to serve for the good of others.

The event coincided with the Catholic Church’s celebration of the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

Fr. Mpagi noted that John the Baptist was set apart from the womb to prepare the way for the Lord.

He encouraged Christians to emulate the example of St. John the Baptist, who proclaimed the Kingdom of God, called people to repentance, and helped them turn their hearts toward God.

Besides preparing the way for the Lord, John also prepared the hearts of the people to receive Jesus Christ.
