Fourteen candidates have been declared unopposed in the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for Member of Parliament (MP) and LC5 chairperson positions, which are scheduled for 16th July 2025.
Of these, 10 are running for parliamentary seats, and 4 are vying for LC5 positions.
The 10 parliamentary candidates include notable figures such as Jane Ruth Aceng, the Woman MP for Lira City; Annet Anita Among, the Woman MP for Bukedea District; Mafabi Mabulo Asha, the Woman MP for Sironko District; Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, representing Kalungu East Constituency; and Salim Kisekka for Bukomansimbi North Constituency.
The 4 unopposed candidates for LC5 positions include Francis Esudu Obwonyo for Soroti City, Alone Tuhairwe Turahi for Isingiro, Dan Mulago Rutetebya for Kiruhura, and Joseph Luzige for Mityana.
Rogers Mulindwa, the Senior Communication Officer at the NRM Secretariat, declared these candidates on behalf of Dr. Tanga Odoi, the Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission.
Mulindwa explained that these candidates will not contest in the primaries and will instead focus on the 2026 general elections.
The nomination process for the primaries is currently underway at the NRM Electoral Commission and is expected to conclude on 30th June 2025.
