The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Richard Todwong, has said the high number of members returning nomination forms is a clear sign that the party remains popular and capable of retaining national leadership.
Speaking to journalists at the NRM Electoral Commission offices on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, Todwong noted that today marks the second day of the nomination process, with over 1,000 party members having successfully completed and returned their forms.
He described the process as calm but acknowledged that the party is overwhelmed by the large turnout.
According to Todwong, this level of enthusiasm demonstrates the public’s continued trust in the NRM.
However, he pointed out a challenge the party is facing determining flag bearers in areas where multiple candidates have expressed interest.
To avoid the violence that has marred past internal elections, Todwong said that all candidates will be required to campaign in their respective areas during the party primaries to ensure a peaceful and organized selection process.
