MP Nabukenya condemns police for disrupting NUP youth meeting in Bombo

Luweero District Woman Member of Parliament Brenda Nabukenya

Luweero District Woman Member of Parliament Brenda Nabukenya has sharply criticized the police in Bombo for allegedly disrupting a National Unity Platform (NUP) strategy meeting.

The meeting, aimed at preparing youth candidates for the upcoming general elections in Katikamu South Constituency, was scheduled to take place at Kalule in Nnyimbwa Sub-County.

However, police officers reportedly blocked access to the venue and halted the gathering.

Nabukenya, a leading voice within the opposition NUP, described the police’s actions as a blatant act of intimidation.

She claimed that officers from Bombo Police Station, supported by patrol units and armed personnel, stormed the peaceful meeting without warning or explanation.

According to her, the heavy deployment was intended to intimidate and suppress political engagement among the youth.
“This show of force was meant to cow, silence, and crush our spirits,” Nabukenya said.

Despite the disruption, she reaffirmed that NUP members remain undeterred.

She emphasized their continued commitment to pursuing change, justice, and advocacy for the voiceless in Uganda.

As of the time of reporting, Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, had not responded to repeated requests for comment by Radio Sapientia.
