NRM Chairperson George Kiberu accused of interfering with Youth and Older Persons’ Council nominations in Masaka

Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe Division

George Kiberu, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Nyendo-Mukungwe Division in Masaka City, is facing accusations of interfering with the ongoing nomination process for youth and older persons’ council and committee elections.

Several opposition-affiliated candidates allege that Kiberu has been using violence and intimidation to sabotage their nominations, as handled by the Electoral Commission.

The Electoral Commission opened nominations on June 2 for village Special Interest Group (SIG) Committees, which include representatives for older persons, youth, and persons with disabilities, in preparation for the upcoming general elections.

However, opposition candidates in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division have accused Kiberu of orchestrating efforts to block their participation.

These candidates claim that Kiberu has been using threats and hired agents to disrupt the process.

Allegations include the confiscation and destruction of nomination forms and reports of physical harassment against some candidates.

Ronald Lule Kasirye, the Democratic Front (DF) coordinator for Matanga and Kibisi wards, accused NRM agents, allegedly acting under Kiberu’s orders, of intimidating opposition candidates.

Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe Division and DF coordinator, confirmed that his office has submitted a formal petition to the Electoral Commission, urging immediate action to ensure a fair and transparent nomination process.
