Veterans have issued a strong warning to opposition political actors, cautioning against any attempts at armed rebellion and reaffirming their commitment to defending the accomplishments of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government, which they credit for transforming Uganda across multiple sectors.
In a statement delivered on behalf of the Luweero Veterans Association, Kiggundu Kabandwa emphasized that the NRM’s liberation war laid the foundation for Uganda’s democratic journey.
The association’s chairperson, Hajji Edirisa Sseddunga, also reinforced the message, stressing that political change must only be pursued through established democratic processes.
The veterans further expressed their appreciation for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s steadfast leadership on national security matters.
They particularly praised the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), highlighting the army’s reputation as one of the most disciplined in the region.
In addition, the historical importance of the Lyantonde–Kabula corridor was underscored, noting its pivotal role in the NRM’s liberation struggle.
Minister for the Luweero Triangle, Alice Kaboyo, also announced that the government is ramping up efforts to improve the livelihoods of veterans’ families through various socioeconomic interventions.
Speaking at the national celebrations held at Kaliiro Town Council in Lyantonde District, Minister Kaboyo revealed that over 300 income-generating enterprises are being supported under a special government programme targeting veterans’ households.
She also provided an update on a mass housing project for veterans, which aims to improve their welfare and dignity.
