At least 40 suspects have been arrested in connection with minor cases, including phone and bag snatching, at both the Catholic Shrine and Anglican site in Namugongo.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, four of these suspects came from Mbarara with the intention of stealing from pilgrims.
Owoyesigyire stated that women have been the primary victims, with most claiming to have lost land titles, phones, and handbags while resting, mainly last night.
Owoyesigyire further revealed that among the suspects is a man accused of attempted rape by the community, allegedly committed at a bathing area within the Catholic Shrine premises.
Additionally, 20 children who got lost from their guardians at both venues have been picked up, along with two elderly individuals who separated from their family members during the visit to the Namugongo Catholic Shrine.
However, Owoyesigyire assured that no serious incidents have been registered, and all are safe.
