The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has launched the construction of a 13.9-kilometer road dubbed the Seeds Oil Road in Atyak Sub-county, Zombo District.
The UGX 2.4 billion project is expected to significantly benefit the farming communities by improving access to Arua District and Arua City, a major commercial hub in the West Nile sub-region.
The new road project offers renewed hope to farmers in Atyak Sub-county, Warr Sub-county, and Warr Town Council, who have long struggled with poor connectivity despite their dependence on trade with Arua markets.
Residents eagerly anticipate the road’s completion, which promises to improve market access and ease transport challenges.
The road will run from Yamu Trading Centre through Ugudu, Angol, and River Ora Bridge, connecting to Luku Trading Centre, Lazebu, and Anyakua a critical junction leading to the tarmacked national road in Bondo, Arua District.
Speaking at the project launch on Tuesday, Zombo District Civil Engineer Isaac Ngagenu welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited solution that will enhance access to schools, healthcare facilities, and local markets.
Ora County Member of Parliament, Lawrence Biyika Songa who also chairs the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change urged the local population to embrace the project.
He encouraged residents to use the improved road network to increase household incomes by boosting the production of key crops such as simsim, soya beans, and groundnuts.
