NRM’s Tanga Odoi welcomes court ruling on Kawempe North Election

The Electoral Commission Chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has welcomed the High Court’s decision to nullify the election of Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, calling it “a step toward justice for the people of Kawempe.”

This follows a Monday afternoon ruling by Justice Bernard Namanya at the High Court in Kampala, who declared the election invalid due to illegal campaign activity and widespread voter disenfranchisement.

Addressing journalists at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters on Kyadondo Road in Kampala, Dr. Odoi said the people of Kawempe had been “robbed” during the election, and that the court’s decision offers a path to justice and electoral fairness.

Meanwhile, the NRM Electoral Commission has set May 29, 2025, as the date for the party’s youth and other Special Interest Groups to begin picking nomination forms.

From June 2 to June 15, 2025, nominations will open for members interested in contesting for Parliamentary and LC V seats.

Dr. Odoi announced that all interested aspirants must collect nomination forms from the NRM party headquarters after paying a non-refundable fee of UGX 3 million to the party’s account at Centenary Bank.

He also advised all applicants to verify their academic qualifications with the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to avoid disqualification or delays during the nomination process.
