Opposition vows to attend tomorrow’s plenary sitting despite calls to boycott

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi

The opposition in Parliament has vowed not to boycott tomorrow’s plenary sitting, during which the House is expected to consider the second and third readings of the UPDF Amendment Bill.

Leader of Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi announced the decision, revealing that despite receiving numerous public appeals to boycott the session, the opposition will not abscond.

Ssenyonyi emphasized that opposition legislators intend to utilize every available platform to voice their opposition to what they describe as unjust legislation being pushed by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

He further appealed to all Ugandans to speak out against the perceived injustices of the NRM regime.

This development comes as NRM Members of Parliament gather today at State House Entebbe for a caucus meeting, which is being chaired by President Yoweri Museveni.

The UPDF Amendment Bill, if passed, would allow for the trial of civilians in the military court martial—an issue that has sparked widespread debate and concern from human rights advocates.
