The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has officially confirmed that Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti will take over as the new manager of the Brazil national team, marking a historic moment for the five-time world champions.
In a statement released on Monday, the CBF announced:
“The CBF is proud to confirm that Carlo Ancelotti will become the next head coach of the Brazilian national football team.”
Ancelotti, 65, will officially assume his duties on May 26, 2025, a day after Real Madrid concludes their La Liga season against Real Sociedad.
His appointment comes ahead of Brazil’s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in June.
The Italian tactician becomes the first foreign manager in the history of the Selecao, a groundbreaking move by the CBF, which praised his unparalleled managerial success in European football.
“This landmark moment sees the coming together of two icons – the only five-time FIFA World Cup champions, and a coach with an unmatched record across Europe’s elite competitions,” the statement read.
Ancelotti will depart Real Madrid after a highly successful second spell at the club, which included Champions League and La Liga triumphs.
His successor, Xabi Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, is set to take over at the Bernabéu from June 1.
The CBF expressed optimism about the new era under Ancelotti’s leadership, stating they “warmly welcome” him as they aim to reclaim international dominance.
