The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, this afternoon celebrated the first Thanksgiving Mass for the newly elected Pope Leo XIV at Lubaga Cathedral, offering heartfelt gratitude for the dedicated service of the media in keeping the Catholic faithful and the world connected throughout the papal election process.
In his homily, Archbishop Ssemogerere praised the providence of God in giving the Church a new Shepherd, the Vicar of Christ and successor of Peter, entrusted with guiding the faithful toward the Kingdom of God.
Drawing from the Gospel of John chapter 10, the Archbishop emphasized that the successors of Peter carry the responsibility to lead, support, and help the world come to know God.
He reminded the congregation that the Pope must reach out without segregation, seeking the wounded, the lost, and those who have strayed from the Church and its teachings.
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost on September 14, 1955, was elected as the 267th Pope yesterday.
He now assumes the sacred duty of leading the global Catholic community of 1.4 billion faithful.
