The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has raised concern over what it describes as infiltration by opposition members to interfere with its ongoing village elections.
This follows claims from some individuals, who state they are fully known party members, that their names were deleted from the NRM register.
Speaking to the Councilor for Goggonya D, Nsambya Central in Makindye Division, Silaje Bukenya, said that those making the claims are not genuine NRM members but rather opposition supporters trying to influence the outcome in favor of opposition-aligned candidates running under the NRM banner.
In Nsambya Central Goggonya Zone, Makindye Division, the voting exercise proceeded without incident and Hajati Mariam Nakintu was declared the winner of the chairperson seat for the zone.
Meanwhile, in Mubiru Zone, Goggonya 1, also located in Nsambya Central, the elections failed to take place as planned due to what is described as internal party mismanagement.
Speaking to the aspiring Woman Councilor LC5, Viola Namwangye expressed dissatisfaction, accusing the outgoing leadership of manipulating the process to maintain their positions.
She revealed that plans are underway to report the matter to the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson for further handling.
