Controversial lawyer Male Mabirizi has announced his intention to retire from legal services once he finds lawyers capable of challenging illegalities in the country.
Mabirizi was imprisoned for 18 months in 2024 for attacking judicial officers on social media.
Despite his controversies, the Uganda Law Society (ULS) honored Mabirizi with a Rule of Law award as a human rights advocate defender in 10-year service.
Mabirizi stated that his 10-year service was a fight against corrupt advocates, including judges, and expressed difficulty finding lawyers to fill his role.
He advised serving lawyers to combat corruption within the judiciary, warning that failure to do so could lead to job losses among advocates.
The ULS Treasurer, Arthur Isiko, praised Mabirizi for speaking out against human rights violators.
Senior Counsel Edson Karuhanga acknowledged Mabirizi’s service and encouraged lawyers to protect their professional image.
