NUP accuses security forces of partisan interference and unprofessional conduct

Security Forces block NUP headquarters in Makerere

The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has strongly condemned the conduct of security forces, accusing them of unprofessionalism and partisan behavior that undermines political neutrality.

This criticism follows an incident on Monday at the NUP party Headquarters in Makerere Kavule, where police and UPDF personnel disrupted activities of the party’s youth wing.

The youth had intended to launch their “Vote” campaign and announce the roadmap for youth elections, but security forces intervened, halting their plans.

Addressing journalists at Makerere Kavule on Tuesday, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi expressed disappointment that security agencies appear to favor certain political parties while restricting opposition activities.

He described the disruption as a sign of biased enforcement that compromises the fairness of the political process.

Despite these setbacks, Kyagulanyi urged party supporters and youths to stay focused and not be intimidated, reaffirming their commitment to advocating for change in Uganda’s political landscape.

In his remarks, Kyagulanyi also criticized the NRM government officials for misleading the public about the “Protest Vote” slogan.

He clarified that the term simply highlights issues such as poor governance, inadequate health and education sectors, and poor road infrastructure rather than being a call for protests aimed at destabilizing the country, as some narratives suggest against NUP.

Additionally, Kyagulanyi announced that his legal team has filed a habeas corpus petition to compel security forces to produce his bodyguard, Eddy Ssebuufu aka Eddy Mutwe, dead or alive, following his disappearance.
