West Nile MPs to protest on May 1 over continued infrastructure neglect by Govt

Dr.George-Bhoka the-MP for Obongi County

Members of Parliament from the West Nile region are gearing up for a demonstration on May 1st to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s ongoing neglect of infrastructure development in their area.

The MPs allege that West Nile has been systematically marginalized in national budget allocations, despite previous assurances, including commitments made by President Museveni in his NRM manifestos.

Among the projects highlighted in their protest is the long-awaited Nebbi-Zombo-Vuura road, a critical 119-kilometer route that has once again been omitted from the latest budget call circular for the financial year 2025/26.

Additionally, key border posts at Goli and Padea are lacking necessary funding.

Dr. George Bhoka, the MP for Obongi County and Vice Chairperson of the West Nile Parliamentary Caucus, voiced similar concerns, emphasizing that the region’s inadequate transport infrastructure hampers economic development, as many essential roads have been excluded from the National Development Plan.
