The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has urged youths to join politics to save the country’s future.
While unveiling the party’s roadmap for the 2026 general elections, Hajji Mahmoud Kazimbiraine, Chairman of the UPC Electoral Commission, announced the nomination fees for various positions.
The fees are as follows: UGX 20 million for presidential candidates, UGX 1 million for MPs, UGX 500,000 for LC5 Chairpersons, UGX 300,000 for Municipality, Mayors, and City Division mayors, UGX 100,000 for LC3 Councillors, UGX 20,000 for Municipal councillors, UGX 10,000 for LC1 Councillors was not mentioned but LC 3 was mentioned to have different fee from LC1 and LC3 Councillors UGX 100,000 and Village chairpersons UGX 5,000.
Hajji Kazimbiraine said the fees aim to eliminate unserious candidates from getting the party ticket.
However, he encouraged youths to participate in the elections by standing for various positions.
Party registration forms are available at the village level, and a delegates’ conference is scheduled for July 30, 2025, to elect the party’s presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.
