The Electoral Commission has commenced displaying the National Voters Register across Uganda, except in 620 polling stations due to technical issues.
The display exercise will run for 21 days, from April 25 to May 18, 2025 with no extensions.
The affected districts with the delay include among others Mityana District with 370 polling stations, Kiryandongo District, 78 polling stations, Mbarara City 48 polling stations, Mpigi District 46 polling stations, Mukono District 32 polling stations, Kampala District 18 polling stations, Wakiso District 13 polling stations
The Electoral Commission, led by Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, has assured the public that the issues will be resolved and the affected polling stations will have their voters’ register displayed as soon as possible once the glitch is resolved.
On the issue of how the commission will be affected by splinting Tororo district into 3 districts , the Electoral Commission, led by Justice Simon Byabakama says they haven’t received confirmation on the split but will devise a plan to handle it once they do.
Recently President Yoweri kaguta museveni approved the division of Tororo district into four administrative units: Tororo City and three new districts, namely Mukuju, Mulanda, and a yet-to-be-named district. This decision aims to reduce ethnic tensions and improve service delivery in the region.
