UPC reflects on Pope Francis’s impact on social justice, environmental advocacy

UPC spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach

As the world mourns the passing of Pope Francis, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) highlights the profound influence of his teachings on social justice and environmental sustainability, urging continued commitment to these vital causes.

In a press briefing at the party headquarters, spokesperson Sharon Arach emphasized that Pope Francis’s legacy goes beyond his role as a spiritual leader; he was a pivotal figure in advocating for peace and justice on a global scale.

His actions, such as the touching moment when he knelt to pray for peace in South Sudan, serve as a powerful reminder of the humility and compassion that should guide leaders worldwide.

She urged Ugandans to embody the values the Pope championed, particularly in their pursuit of social justice and reconciliation in a region often marked by division and strife.

Arach also underlined the Pope’s commitment to environmental issues, noting his calls for sustainable practices and climate action. “Pope Francis reminded us all of our responsibility to care for the Earth.

She added that Pope’s teachings on environmental stewardship encourage people to pursue clean energy solutions and sustainable farming techniques that can help protect our planet for future generations.

The UPC encourages all Ugandans, regardless of their religious affiliations, to reflect on Pope Francis’s life and teachings, to embrace his commitment to social justice and environmental care as guiding principles in their daily lives.

May his soul rest in eternal peace
