The leadership of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has issued a stern warning to its mobilizers, known as ‘foot soldiers,’ urging them to refrain from making false or unsubstantiated promises to potential members during recruitment efforts.
This message was delivered by Alex Lwanyaga, a member of the NUP elections committee and assistant to the party’s Secretary General, during a meeting with mobilizers at the party offices in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero District.
Lwanyaga expressed concern regarding the conduct of some mobilizers, pointing out troubling instances where they have insulted party leaders and supporters who do not share NUP’s views, particularly on social media.
He condemned such behavior as shameful and emphasized the detrimental impact it has on party cohesion, especially when directed at individuals from rival political groups.
The NUP official called on mobilizers to maintain focus, directing their efforts toward increasing party membership rather than engaging in internal conflicts that could undermine the party’s unity and public image.
He also addressed allegations of some mobilizers soliciting bribes from prospective candidates seeking party tickets for the upcoming elections, declaring this practice unacceptable and urging its immediate cessation.
Lwanyaga reassured party members that, unlike the less structured process of the 2021 elections, this time NUP are committed to conducting a transparent and organized nomination process, providing ample time for all candidates to prepare.
In support of this message, Erasto Kibirango, the LC V Chairman of Luweero District and a NUP member, highlighted the party’s readiness to build upon the successes of the 2021 elections, where NUP outperformed the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in many electoral positions.
