Kasana-Luweero diocesan offices closed for Easter; Vigilance urged amid rising crime

Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga, the Vicar General of Kasana-Luweero Diocese

The Kasana-Luweero Diocesan offices will be closed for 11 days as clergy and lay faithful at headquarters take time to celebrate Easter.

The break, starting on Wednesday, April 16th, will conclude on April 27th, with office work resuming on Monday, April 28th, 2025.

During this period, staff members are urged to remain vigilant to prevent any potential security issues.

This announcement was made on Wednesday by Rev. Fr. Cyril Kasigwa, the Diocesan Chancellor, shortly after the closing mass attended by the entire diocesan staff.

The Mass was presided over by Msgr. Francis Xavier Mpanga, the Vicar General of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, alongside the Ordinary of the diocese, Rt. Rev. Bishop Lawrence Mukasa.

Fr. Kasigwa emphasized the importance of vigilance during this holiday season, noting an increase in chaos and criminal activity during such festivities.

He encouraged staff to reflect on the themes of love, hope, and resilience as they celebrate Easter.

His warning comes in light of increasing criminality in the area.

The 2024 Police crime report indicates that Luweero ranks fourth among the most crime-ridden districts, with a total of 4,111 cases recorded in 2023 a significant rise from 3,374 recorded in 2022.

The report also reveals that in 2024, 86 people were murdered, making Luweero the second deadliest district in the country.
