The Uganda Advance Certificate of Education UACE commonly known as Senior Five has officially started today 3rd March according to the Ministry of Education calendar.
A total of 350,146 candidates which is 98.05% who sat Uganda Certificate of Education (S4) last year passed and qualified to join S5 out of a total of 366,270 who sat for UCE in the year 2024.
The head of the placement selection committee in the ministry of Education Jane Egau during the selection exercise for S5 at the Uganda Manufactures Association UMA on 20th and 21st February 2025 said at least 6974 candidates who were not shortlisted should join tertiary education or the work force.
Now in our exclusive interview with the director of studies at Emmanuel College Kazo Ssuuna Gerald, revealed that government has aligned the new lower secondary curriculum with the senior five teaching or curriculum to maintain the needed standard and work.
Ssuuna says the cumulative assessment process for the learners performance will still be given high priority and added up at the end of the year for progress purposes with a sample question that is similar to the project work at O’level will be administered to help learners internalize the topics.
He adds that its not a matter of giving a student subject combinations but teachers must engage in career guidance to support the learners take relevant subjects that will help him or her achieve the best in future.
