The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has reiterated its unwillingness to apologize to the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo over the recent public criticism for the statements by the Society’s President Isaac Ssemakadde.
Owiny-Dollo while speaking at the opening of the New-Law-Year fiercely criticized Ssemakadde, accusing his leadership of unethical behaviour, public insults and attempts to tarnish the image of the Judiciary and the Law profession.
He admitted blocking Ssemakadde from speaking at the event and also urged legal professionals to reflect on their conduct and offer an apology to the Judiciary, particularly Justice Musa Ssekaana, whom he claimed had been unfairly targeted.
Anthony Asiimwe, the ULS Vice President noted that Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo misbehaved by attempting to silence the lawyers who have come out strong on the wrongs that are happening within the Judiciary, which is unacceptable.
He however promised that they shall be sending a formal protest note to the Chief Justice, reiterating the Society’s earlier request for a meeting with a high-level delegation of the bar to discuss hot button issues for the New Law Year and create harmonious relations with the bench.
