Office of the President Moans Budget Cuts for RDCs’ Offices

Chairperson Presidential Affairs Committee , Alex Byarugaba

The Office of the President is seeking for additional funding of 2.8 billion shillings to cater for the construction of offices for Resident District/City Commissioners RDCs/RCCs at their different duty stations.

Presenting the underfunded priorities before the Parliament’s Budget Committee, the Chairperson of the Presidential Affairs Committee of Parliament, Alex Byarugaba (Isingiro South MP) noted that in the next financial year 2025/2026, the Office of the President will still continue to foot high rent costs for the different offices of RDCs/RCCs due to the inadequate funds allocated for the item of construction of new offices.

He says out of the requested 3.5 billion shillings, only 700 million shillings has been allocated, leaving a funding gap of 2.8 billion shillings.

Byarugaba says with the amount provided, the Office of the President will be able to construct one office for the RDC per financial year against the five offices they had earlier proposed.

He has also revealed that the RDCs’/RCCs’ facilitation for the next financial year 2025/2026 is less by 6.2 billion shillings as out of the 21 billion shillings requested, only 14.8 billion shillings was provided.
