Police to Investigate ‘Fraud’ in Issuance of Interpol Certificates

Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma

The Directorate of INTERPOL and International Relations (DIIR) has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery in the issuance of Certificates of Good Conduct following an anonymous complaint made on social media platform “X” on January 16, 2025.

The complaint alleged that officers responsible for issuing these certificates have been extorting an additional 50,000 shillings for a stamp on top of the standard bank fees.

While addressing the media on Monday at Naguru, the Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed receipt of the complaint and provided clarity on the matter.

He noted that their certificates do not carry stamps; they only include a barcode for verification and the officer’s photo while the money is paid at the banks.

Rusoke explained that while the Directorate is committed to addressing the broader allegations, anonymous complaints pose a challenge for specific investigations.

He also highlighted a common issue contributing to such illegalities saying it is the impatience of some applicants in that some individuals, eager to expedite the process, seek assistance from unauthorized personnel, inadvertently fueling corruption.
