Mixed Reactions as Ssenyonyi Marks 1st Year as LoP

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Joel Ssenyonyi has vowed to continue pressing for his rights on the Parliamentary Commission like all the other current Commissioners of Parliament.

While giving accountability for the past one year in office which he attained on January 9th 2024, Ssenyonyi re-echoed that the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has persistently refused to invite him for the Commission sittings, the latest one being the one held on Monday January 13th 2025.

He has also noted with frustration from both his fellow Opposition Members of Parliament serving in the Shadow Cabinet the withdrawal of employees supposed to serve in their offices, which he claims was systematically planned to curtail their office work and service to Ugandans.

However, Ssenyonyi has promised to work towards improving on the image of the Opposition MPs and Parliament at large in his second year as LoP.

He says the majority of Ugandans have lost hope in Parliament as an institution especially on grounds of morals, impact of the legislators in their constituencies and the country as a whole as well as their commitment in fighting corruption in the country.
