The Police have directed musicians to cut their entourages to five people while in the public domain.
This comes after the State Minister for Youths and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara who is also an events organizer recently asked the Police to crack down on the rising violent gangs created and led by some musicians.
The gangs have of late become a threat to public safety attacking innocent people, especially at music concerts.
Responding to questions on the matter from journalists at the Police headquarters at Naguru on Monday, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson noted that they are still planning on ways of handling errant musicians and their gangs.
He says they won’t allow those musicians moving with big groups of people unless they give substantive explanations.
The resolution follows incidents of violence and theft at music events, particularly during the New Year celebrations held at various locations.
A major violent incident occurred on December 31st, 2024 when rival gangs affiliated with musicians Patrick Mulwana alias Alien Skin and Pius Mayanja a.k.a Pallaso clashed at three separate locations, including at the Buganda Kingdom’s end-of-year celebration dubbed ‘Enkuuka’, at Forest Park Buloba during ‘Emele’ music festival and at Alien Skin’s home at Makindye.
