UPC Asks Transport Operators Not to Raise Fares ahead of Festive Season

UPC party headquarters at Uganda House, Kampala, Faizo Muzeeyi

Following the announcement by taxi drivers to increase transport fares during festive season, the opposition Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has challenged them to think twice and be lenient to fellow Ugandans who are being tormented by economic difficulties.

Muhammad Ssempijja, a leader in the Namayiba Taxi Park said that the increase in transport fares would allow them to cater for the maintenance of their vehicles, which would help in reducing the risk of accidents but also help them make ends meet.

While addressing journalists at the UPC party headquarters at Uganda House, Kampala, Faizo Muzeeyi, the Head of Communication at UPC said the end of year and the Christmas celebrations calls for joy and happiness with families therefore transport operators need to be considerate and help people reach their destinations to enjoy the festive season with their loved ones.

Muzeeyi has however tasked Traffic Police to be vigilant on careless and over speeding drivers to save lives during the festive season he also advised the public to mind about their properties as conmen and opportunists are on rampage during such times.
