Gov’t Acquires 200 Acres for New Kampala Landfill

Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda

The Government says that by Thursday all the necessary requirements will be finalized to acquire a new land fill where the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) will be dumping garbage collected from the city for proper and better management.

Last week, the Government through the Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda confirmed that the Government had secured 200 acres of land for garbage dumping and management in Bujuuko along Mityana Road.

While at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala presenting the ministry’s performance in the implementation of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) 2021-2026 Manifesto explained that since the collapse of the Kiteezi landfill, KCCA has been dumping garbage in Entebbe Municipality and Katikkolo in Mukono district and in all these places the authorities have stopped them from dumping there garbage from Kampala which has resulted into garbage heaps in the city.

According to Kabanda, even the concessionaires’ contracts expired leaving many in doubt whether their contracts will be renewed hence appealing to the people of Kampala to stay calm regarding issues of garbage as they finalize all the necessary steps to sort out this mess.
