The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development together with that of Tourism are contemplating revoking the licenses of tours and travel companies involved in trafficking OF persons to several destinations abroad.
The State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Esther Davinia Anyakun while releasing a report on the pardoning of Ugandans by the Saudi Arabian authorities from prisons and detention centers at the Uganda Media Centre, Kampala on Monday, said that they have established that many tour and travel companies are increasingly getting involved in the trafficking of Ugandans abroad for job opportunities yet they are not licensed for such work.
Anyakun adds that many of the girls taken through these tour and travel companies have ended up engaging in unlawful activities that result in their detention.
Meanwhile, Anyakun has disclosed that over 146 Ugandans have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia through the ongoing 60 days amnesty that ends on December 31st 2024. On Monday 20 more Ugandans returned to the country from Saudi Arabia.
She calls upon all Ugandans still stranded in Saudi Arabia to reach out to the nearest airport to be brought back.
