Kampala Archdiocese to Foster Development through SACCOs

Press briefing ahead of the 2nd Kampala Archdiocesan Cooperative Exhibition

The Archdiocese of Kampala has committed to improving people’s incomes and livelihood through strategies that encourage people to work together to pool funds for development.

This is mainly through the reintroduction of Catholic based Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs).

According to the Director Caritas Kampala, Rev. Fr. John Peter Musumba, such cooperation helps people to work together, share ideas and means of how to achieve development more easily.

He says it is unfortunate that few youths have embraced cooperative societies yet they comprise the biggest number of Uganda’s population without jobs.

He says through these SACCOs the youths could support themselves, the reason why the Catholic Church in Kampala is going to introduce cooperative societies in schools to encourage learners to embrace the culture of saving and investment from an early age.

This was during a press briefing ahead of the 2nd Kampala Archdiocesan Cooperative Exhibition that is to take place at the YES Centre Nsambya this weekend from October 19th to 20th 2024.

The Manager Kampala Development Cooperative Society (KADCOS) Joseph Kamoga assured that they have a number of activities lined up in the two-day exhibition in fields of poultry, agriculture, and financial literacy among others.

He called upon the general public to attend the exhibition which will be officially opened by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere on Saturday October 19th 2024 with Holy Mass at St. Peter’s Parish Nsambya.
