The Archbishop of Bamenda in Cameroon, His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea, has called for concerted global efforts to preserve peace, warning that wars have had devastating consequences for individuals, communities and the world at large.
Speaking in a recent interview with Vatican News in Rome, Archbishop Nkea stressed that peace, once lost, is difficult to restore. He urged people across the world to embrace peace and unity, while making every possible effort to prevent conflicts in their communities and nations.
The Archbishop also encouraged people living in peaceful countries to jealously guard this fundamental right and stand in solidarity with communities affected by war, supporting their efforts to restore lasting peace.
Reflecting on Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Visit to Bamenda in April this year, Archbishop Nkea said the visit gave fresh impetus to ongoing peacebuilding efforts in Cameroon.
During the historic visit, the Pope met with religious, traditional, civic and community leaders at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bamenda, in a gathering that underscored the importance of dialogue, unity and collective responsibility in building peace.
Archbishop Nkea noted that such engagements remain important in strengthening efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in the country.
