The Bishop of Lira Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Santos Lino Wanoko, has called on Christians and young people to promote peace, dialogue, and mutual understanding as effective ways of resolving conflicts, rather than resorting to violence and war.
Bishop Wanoko made the appeal during the official closing ceremony of the nine-day Novena of St. Jude Thaddeus at Our Lady and St. Jude Parish in Naggulu.
He emphasized the importance of educating and encouraging young people to reject violence and embrace dialogue whenever disagreements arise.
He noted that human beings have the ability to communicate, reason together, reach consensus, and resolve their differences peacefully without resorting to fighting or killing.
The Bishop further urged Christians to work collectively to protect human dignity and foster a culture of peace, warning against practices that promote violence and the destruction of human life.
Meanwhile, the Head of Laity at Our Lady and St. Jude Parish in Naggulu, Rt. Hon. Margaret Nantongo Zziwa Babu, expressed gratitude to individuals, development partners, and well-wishers for their continued financial and material support towards the construction of a new church.
She commended the various stakeholders for their commitment and contributions, noting that their support was instrumental in advancing the church construction project.
Zziwa Babu said that, if the work progresses according to plan, the new church is expected to be completed in 2029.
