A total of 2,920 students have graduated in various academic disciplines at the 32nd graduation ceremony of Uganda Martyrs University, which also marked the institution’s 33rd anniversary.
Of the graduates, 1,667 were male, while 1,253 were female. Nine students were awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, including Reverend Father Doctor Charles Oyo, who earned a PhD in Governance and Peace.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Minister of State for Works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, urged the graduates and their parents to embrace financial discipline, prudent planning and investment as key strategies for securing their future.
Byamukama cautioned the graduates against wasteful spending, encouraging them to cultivate a culture of saving and invest in productive ventures, such as coffee growing. He also urged them to take advantage of economic opportunities available in their home communities to improve their livelihoods and contribute to local development.
The minister further emphasized the importance of responsible parenthood and respect for parents, calling on the graduates to use the knowledge and skills acquired at the university to transform their communities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, including bishops, priests, government ministers, Members of Parliament, parents and guardians, who joined the university community in celebrating the graduates’ academic achievements.
