The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, has commissioned and blessed the renovated modern Caritas Ward and a newly acquired state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at Our Lady of Consolata Hospital, Kisubi.
The new MRI machine is expected to enhance the hospital’s diagnostic capacity by providing detailed images of internal organs, soft tissues, bones and other body structures. The technology uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images without exposing patients to ionising radiation, supporting accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Archbishop Ssemogerere reaffirmed the Catholic Church’s commitment to providing quality healthcare and saving lives. He noted that investing in modern medical equipment is essential to strengthening healthcare systems and ensuring that patients receive appropriate and timely treatment.
The Archbishop also reminded scientists and healthcare workers that their primary responsibility is to preserve and protect human life. He urged them to use their God-given talents to serve patients with compassion, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility.
Emphasising the need for equitable access to healthcare, Archbishop Ssemogerere cautioned against placing financial considerations above the well-being of patients. He called on healthcare providers to extend compassionate care to the poor and vulnerable, noting that society is characterised by inequalities that often limit access to essential medical services.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health and guest of honour, Dr Chris Baryomosi, urged the hospital’s management to remain committed to delivering quality healthcare through continued investment in modern medical technologies, professional development and initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Dr Baryomosi also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Catholic health institutions, including Our Lady of Consolata Hospital, Kisubi, which play a significant role in delivering people-centred healthcare services across Uganda.
The commissioning of the renovated Caritas Ward and the new MRI machine marks an important milestone in the hospital’s efforts to modernise its facilities, strengthen diagnostic services and improve the quality of care offered to patients.
The development further underscores the contribution of faith-based health institutions to Uganda’s healthcare system through investments in medical infrastructure, advanced technology and compassionate service to communities.
