In a separate ruling, the High Court in Lira has dismissed an election petition challenging the election of Patrick Ogwang Obura as Member of Parliament for Oyam South.
In a decision delivered this afternoon, Acting Judge Fatuma Nanziri Bwanika ruled that the use of a former surname belonging to the petitioner, Queen Dorothy Amolo, on the ballot paper did not invalidate the election.
The judge held that the discrepancy between the name under which Amolo was nominated and the name printed alongside her photograph on the ballot paper amounted to a misnomer rather than the substitution of one candidate for another.
The ruling effectively upholds Ogwang Obura’s election, dismissing the challenge arising from the discrepancy in the petitioner’s name on the ballot paper.
The two decisions mark further judicial determinations of parliamentary election disputes arising from Uganda’s January 2026 general elections.
