Domestic Dispute Sparks Fire That Destroys Four Houses in Lubaga, Leaves Three Injured

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachel Kawala

Police have urged couples experiencing domestic disagreements to seek counselling and intervention from relevant authorities instead of resorting to violence, following a domestic altercation that triggered a fire outbreak in Kabaawo Zone, Kyondo, Lubaga Division.

Nateete Police are investigating the incident, which occurred yesterday after a disagreement between a married couple identified as Kagwa and his wife reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation inside their home.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachel Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that during the altercation, the wife allegedly set their mattress on fire, triggering a blaze that quickly spread to three neighbouring houses.

The fire reportedly left three people injured and destroyed property in the affected homes.

Kawala condemned the escalation of domestic disagreements into violence, urging couples and families experiencing conflicts to seek timely intervention before situations get out of control.

She advised those facing domestic challenges to seek guidance from trusted relatives and relevant authorities, particularly the Police Family and Child Protection Unit, rather than resorting to physical confrontations.

The police spokesperson emphasised that domestic disputes should be resolved peacefully through dialogue, counselling and mediation, warning that uncontrolled conflicts can result in injuries, loss of lives and destruction of property.

Police have encouraged members of the public to report domestic violence and seek professional assistance whenever disagreements threaten the safety and wellbeing of family members.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing.
