Three current and former officials of Ntare School are in custody over alleged irregular salary payments amounting to Shs110.8 million, following investigations by the Inspectorate of Government (IG).
The suspects are current head teacher Saul Rwampororo, former head teacher Jimmy Turyagyenda, and former school typist Peace Kebirungi.
They are accused of offences including abuse of office and uttering false documents.
Sarah Magola, head of the Inspectorate of Government’s Mbarara regional office, said the investigations centred on allegations that Kebirungi used a forged university admission letter in October 2015 to secure study leave with pay but subsequently absconded from duty while continuing to receive a government salary.
According to Magola, Kebirungi allegedly continued receiving her salary from September 2015 to August 2024 despite being absent from duty.
She added that the alleged misconduct was concealed by Turyagyenda before his retirement from public service, while Rwampororo is also implicated in the matter.
Magola said Rwampororo allegedly forwarded Kebirungi’s application for early retirement in 2023 despite her purported ineligibility arising from her prolonged absence from duty.
By February 2026, Kebirungi had allegedly received Shs110.8 million in irregular salary payments, Magola said.
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala to answer charges relating to the alleged financial loss and abuse of office.
