More than 1,500 agricultural stakeholders are expected to gather in Kampala next week for the National Agroecology Week of Action, an event aimed at promoting sustainable farming, improving market access and strengthening agricultural policies in Uganda.
The five-day event, organised by PELUM Uganda in collaboration with government ministries, will run from October 26 to 30, 2026, at Hotel Africana.
According to World Bank data cited by PELUM Uganda, agriculture employed approximately 65 per cent of Ugandans in 2025, highlighting the sector’s importance to livelihoods, employment and the national economy.
The event will feature an agroecology symposium, a market expo and an indigenous seed and food festival, bringing together farmers, policymakers, development partners and other agricultural stakeholders to discuss practical solutions for building a resilient and sustainable food system.
PELUM Uganda Country Coordinator Josephine Akia Luyimbazi says agroecology plays a critical role in improving farmers’ livelihoods, conserving biodiversity and strengthening food security.
The National Agroecology Week of Action is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase sustainable agricultural practices and explore strategies to improve farmers’ access to markets while promoting policies that support resilient food systems.
