Police have arrested three suspects in two separate robbery-related incidents in Kampala, including a 19-year-old man accused of participating in an armed robbery in Nakasero in which a car dealer lost valuables worth Sh29 million.
The Nakasero robbery occurred on October 12, 2026, at around 5:30 p.m. near Mackinnon Suites, opposite the Sudanese Embassy.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the victim, Kenneth Mubazzi, 30, was travelling on a motorcycle from Bukoto when he was attacked by armed men riding approximately seven motorcycles.
The assailants allegedly robbed Mubazzi of three mobile phones, a gold chain and a bracelet, with the stolen items valued at Sh29 million. He sustained bruises during the incident.
Owoyesigyire said security personnel responded after the victim raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Julius Waiswa. One of the stolen phones was recovered.
He added that Waiswa had previously faced aggravated robbery charges before being released from Luzira Prison in July 2026.
Police investigations into the incident are ongoing, with other suspects still at large.
Meanwhile, police have arrested two other suspects over alleged phone snatching along Jinja Road in Kampala, recovering seven mobile phones and a vehicle believed to have been used to conceal stolen devices.
The suspects, identified as Jonathan Kato and Hassan Nyanzi, were arrested on October 11, 2026, at around 7:17 p.m. near Lugogo traffic lights during an operation targeting phone snatchers.
Owoyesigyire said the operation followed a report by a victim who tracked a stolen phone, leading officers to a white Toyota Wish, registration number UBH 945R.
Kato reportedly admitted that he was driving the vehicle, which police believe was being used to conceal stolen mobile phones.
Police have continued investigations into both incidents as they pursue other suspects and seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged crimes.
